Priyadarshan plans film on AIDS with Aamir Khan

After the warm reception to his just released “De Dana Dan”, Priyadarshan plans to make a on AIDS with Aamir Khan in a way that’s palatable to the public.

He wants to make films for the masses. Even if it’s about the construction mafia “Khatta Meetha” with Akshay Kumar and Trisha or the stigma attached to inter-caste marriages in a with Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna, he will speak in the language of the common man.

“De Dana Dan” is a big hit even in Pakistan where it’s running to packed houses in a theatre with shows from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Priyan — as Priyadarshan is popularly known — says the romantic rain song with Akshay and Katrina which had been edited for reasons of length will be restored in the prints from Saturday.

“I’ve never made films for critics. I make my films, even my so-called artistic ones like ‘Kala Pani’ and ‘Kanchivaram’, for a mass audience. Today commercial success is more important for the survival of our industry than ever before.

“Don’t critics want films to do well? Don’t they want the industry to make money so the business can get back on its feet? If audiences want to watch happy films who is going to stop them?”

Priyan says he’ll continue to make the films that connect with the audience.

“I’m a buff. I understand world cinema. I know about Fellini, Ray and Godard. And Satyajit Ray is one of my favourite directors. But I also understand about the market. We can’t make the films that audiences don’t come to see.”

Some of his hit movies include “Hera Pheri” (2000), “Garam Masala” (2005), “Bhagam Bhag” (2006) and “Bhool Bhulaiyya” (2007).

So what would Priyan’s future equation with his creativity be?

“Very simple. I will make the films I believe in. I’ve attained success in arthouse and mass cinema. I’ll make what comes naturally to me. Not the films that critics want me to make. I believe in every frame of ‘De Dana Dan’. If some critics haven’t liked it at least they should’ve the grace to admit the common man loves it. Say you don’t like. But don’t make up your mind for the masses, please!”

“I don’t claim to be a great filmmaker. But please take a long hard look at my body of work. Just see how many of my films have connected with the audience.”

De Dana Dan – Review

de dana danLocal news papers promotes De Dana Dan in a very different way, giving a new statement  like ” 5 stars mat dheko – Great entertainment dheko “.

The performance of Akshay leads the laugh riot from the front. But he’s suddenly pushed to the back, much to the detriment of the . Sadly, Katrina too looks completely out of sorts for most of the . Just one question: Did someone else dub for her? Amongst the others, it’s Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever and Suneil Shetty who manage to hold your attention; the rest are too loud, specially Manoj Joshi.Dialogs are mostly silly, hardly funny.

Priyadarshan’s plot is too loose, too long, too scattered to hold your attention. Most of the comedy is slapstick and stems from situational goof-ups.

Pritam’s music isn’t inspired this time. None of the songs have shelf life. The only one which mildly moves you is Paisa, the Katrina-Akshay duet belted by a Punjabi pop band.Unimpressive dance moves by Ganesh Acharya. The fashion aesthete is forgettable too. The girls look ordinary in their dresses and the guys sport the boy-next-door look.

Aussie Kylie Minogue stars in Bollywood Bahamas

According to media reports, “BLUE” cost between Rs 80-100 crore and is the most expensive Hindi ever made. The crew includes two Oscar winners, including composer AR Rahman and sound designer Resul Pookutty. Additionally, it features Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue, and Pete Zucarini, the underwater director of photography from Pirates of the Caribbean (savvy?). And then there are a host of stars including Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta. Akshay Kumar plays a rich man in the Bahamas who loves his women and the good life. He befriends Sanjay Dutt, a fisherman/diver who lives in a sprawling designer bungalow and flaunts a glamorous wife (Lara Dutta). There are vague references to Dutt’s dark memories about a sunken ship. The takes a turn when Sam (Zayed Khan) flees from Bangkok and reaches Bahamas to avail help from his elder brother Sagar. Then villian Gulshan (Rahul Dev) follows Sam to the Bahamas, the on-site filming locale. But will they find treasure in the end? This is the most awaited big budget in this year, so don’t miss it, even though it’s your typical treasure , loose script with only average Direction. Having AR Rahman and Kylie (Down Unda’) Minogue together in a Bollywood Bahamas has sufficient promise itself alone.
